BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Elida Solis Lopez entered into eternal rest on Thursday, the 27th of July 2023 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence surrounded by her loving family. She was ninety years of age.  

Elida was born in La Feria, Texas on June 25, 1933, daughter of the late Gumercindo and Maria Solis. She later moved to Brownsville, Texas and graduated from Brownsville High School. 

Elida was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A successful businesswoman, she was the retired owner of Lopez Wholesale Meats, which was founded in 1958. Her late husband, Manuel “Meme” Lopez, Jr., was the last surviving founding father of the Lopez Grocery chain, which was established in the year 1934.  

She enjoyed baking and made the best carrot cake and pineapple upside-down cake. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Elida hosted the best Superbowl parties. She loved going to the ranch during hunting season. Her other favorite pastimes included traveling, ceramics, and bowling. 

Preceding Elida in death was her loving and devoted husband, Manuel “Meme” Lopez, Jr.; her parents, Gumercindo and Maria Solis; her brothers, Alfredo Solis and Joe Solis, Sr.; and her daughter-in-law, Bertha Lylia Lopez.

Survivors include her children, Luis Lionel Lopez and Daniel Antonio Lopez (Rosie); her grandchildren, Monica Evans (Greg), Eric Lopez, Lizzette Lopez, and Michelle Villarreal (Gustavo); her great-grandchildren, Preston Evans, Scotty Evans, Sophia Villarreal, and Gustavo Villarreal, Jr.; her siblings, Hector Solis and Maria Francisca “Penchi” de la Rosa; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.  

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, the 2nd of August 2023 between the hours of four o'clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with a recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Wednesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. 

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 3rd of August 2023 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville.
