BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Elida B. Tamayo, our loving mother, entered into eternal rest after a long illness on Tuesday, the 24th of January 2023 while in the comfort of her Brownsville residence with members of her loving family present. She was eighty-nine years of age.
A native of Brownsville, she was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many who were always there to assist her family and extended family as needed.
Elida attended Brownsville High School. She worked for the Brownsville Public Utilities Board (Brownsville P.U.B.) as the Human Resources Manager for forty-one years, from October 19, 1960 until her retirement on July 2, 1999. She was active in the community, serving as a volunteer team leader for the United Way of Brownsville. She was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Brownsville City Employees Federal Credit Union from 1985-1991.
Preceding Elida her in death were her parents, Conrado and Olivia Barrera; her husband of fifty-one years, Lt. Pat Tamayo (BPD ret.); her sons, John and John P. Tamayo; her grandson, CWO-1 Travis R. Tamayo (U.S. Army); her brothers Roberto, Rodolfo, and Baltazar Barrera; and her son-in-law, Jesse B. Moreno.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children Roy Patrick Tamayo (Karin) of San Antonio, Texas, Patricia Ann Moreno (Jesse +) of Houston, Texas, Robert Patrick Tamayo of Memphis, Tennessee, and Richard Patrick Tamayo (Blanca) of Brownsville, Texas; along with her siblings, Socorro Trevino (Kino +) of San Antonio, Texas, Ofelia Barrera of Brownsville, Texas, and Rogelio Barrera of Houston, Texas; in addition to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her extended family.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 2nd of February 2023 between the hours of two o'clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Thursday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 3rd of February 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 602 E. Elizabeth Street, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
Honored to be serving as her pallbearers are Shannon Tamayo, Joey Medrano, Ricky Tamayo, Carlo Tamayo, Joey Tamayo, Rene Medrano, and Gunner Gonzalez.
The family would like to thank her doctor, Dr. Rolando Posada, Calidad Home Health, and her nurses. We would like to specially thank her caretakers, Isabel "Chavela" Garza, Sandra Matamoros, and Norma Matamoros.
