Elisa Nina Orietta Torres, loving wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister and friend, departed this life on November 30, 2012. Nina, as she was known by many, was of generous soul and heart. She was fond of collecting items close to her heart for her daughters to keep and cherish, as a memory of her existence in their lives. She enjoyed the peacefulness of gardening her favorite flowers being roses. Nina was an avid fan of fast pitch softball. During her healthy phase of life, together with her husband, she enjoyed partaking in the sport as an active fan. One of her favorite pasttimes was reading, especially westerns by Louis LAmour, which she passed on to her daughters and grandchildren.
Nina is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Reynaldo Pilin Torres of Brownsville her daughters, Irene Rey Rosales, Teresa Timothy Loop, Elisa Joseph Briseno all of Brownsville and Lissette Manuel De La Cerda from Harlingen and Chriselma Julio Garza of Bay City her siblings, Refugio Toni Cortez, Ernesto Cortez, Maria Del Rosario Abraham, all of Houston and Ricardo Argelia Cortez of McAllen 11 grandchildren, Monica Crowder, Lynsey Rosales, Christopher and Derek De La Cerda, David and Jaclyn Ruth, Abigail and Elizabeth Loop, Ashley Jones, Leslie Garza and J.Lorence Briseno and six greatgrandchildren, Scottie, Jacob, Trista, Natalia, Ross and Raelyn.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents, Refugio Cortez and Elizabeth Leston and by two sons, Eliseo Torres and Reynaldo Torres, Jr.
Ninas family would like to extend their sincere heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Luis Robles, Dr. Nolan Perez, Dr. Gaytan, Dr. Brooks, Dr. Castillo, In Home Health Care, Odyssey Hospice, Juanita Vallejo, Maria Aguilar, Juanita Gutierrez and Juanita Martinez who were all instrumental in caring for her in her final years. Additional constant support was provided to Nina by her husband and daughters.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012 with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the East Chapel of DarlingMouser Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1200 Lincoln St. Burial will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Serving as Ninas pallbearers will be Reynaldo Rosales, Timothy Loop, David Ruth, Christopher J. De La Cerda, J. Lorence Briseno and Derek De La Cerda.
