BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Maria Elisa M. Rousset “Elisa”, 89, a lifelong resident of Brownsville, Texas, was born on the 4th of August 1932 and departed this life on the Sunday, 9th of January 2022.
Elisa attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. She returned to Brownsville where she began her career at Britton’s Photo Shop. Elisa then met Louis Rousset and they married in May of 1956. She then went on to work at Texas Commerce Bank and Southmost Savings and Loan. After her career in banking, Elisa worked as a substance abuse counselor for the State of Texas and dedicated her counseling services to Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP) in Brownsville. Most importantly, Elisa worked to establish, mentor, lead, and participate in a series of Religious Groups, Counseling Groups, and various Ministries throughout her lifetime, in addition to volunteering her time at the church where served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Elisa loved to dance, exercise, read, watch the news, eat good food, and she never met a dessert she did not like! She was health conscious, participated in daily aerobics until her late 80’s. As a certified Yoga instructor, she taught Senior Yoga. Elisa was a loving Mother and a gentle and kind soul who will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.
Preceding Elisa in death was her husband, Louis Rousset; and her brothers, Henry Martinez and Robert Martinez.
Survivors include her three children: daughter, Melissa A. Rousset of Brooklyn, New York, daughter, Monica R. Cantu of San Antonio, Texas and her husband Amado and their children Gabriel, Lilliana, Isabella, and Sienna Cantu, and son, Louis S. Rousset of Austin, Texas and his wife Julie Fletcher and their son, Steven Gavin; sisters, Graciela M. Pineda of Brownsville, Texas and Irma M. Saucedo of El Paso, Texas; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, the 18th of January 2022 between the hours of five o’clock in the afternoon and eight o’clock at night, with a recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock Tuesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 19th of January 2022 at the historic Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 602 E. Elizabeth Street, Brownsville. Committal services will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville.
