Elizabeth G. (Gutierrez) Williams, 90, of Brownsville, passed away on December 10, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Though she spent most of her life in Brownsville, she enjoyed her early childhood on a ranch in La Paloma. Her final days were passed at Casa Grace in La Feria, Texas with her family at her bedside.
As a young woman, Elizabeth worked at First National Bank in Brownsville. One of her fondest memories is of the year she spent in Reynosa with her maternal grandparents, Antonio and Refugio Gutierrez, when she worked at the First National Bank in McAllen. Years later, she worked as a substitute teacher in the Brownsville School District. Her favorite grade to teach was third grade.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Berl Williams, by her sisters Lilia Ramos of Reynosa, Hilda Dominguez and Virginia Triche of New Orleans, and her brother Tony Gutierrez of Gonzales, Louisiana. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Kirshner (Michael) of Portland, Oregon and Liza Williams Philpot (Patrick) of Harlingen, and by her sister Olga Gavito of Brownsville as well as by numerous nieces and nephews in Texas, Louisiana, and Nuevo León, Mexico.
She was dearly loved by her immediate and extended family and enjoyed her many friends throughout her lifetime. She will be remembered for her easy laugh and her loving heart.
Services are on Sunday, December 13 at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Visitation is from 2:30-4:30 pm. A rosary service and celebration of life will begin at 4:30 pm. Bring a memory or story to share. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Shrine, 3200 E. 91st St., Chicago, IL 60617.
