Elvira Al C. Burnett, 96, of Brownsville, entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 28, 2009 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. br Al grew up in the Bay area of Northern California as part of an Italian French family. She met a sailor from Texas named Hugh Jack Burnett, Jr. During the Depression, they moved to San Antonio, Texas where they were married. They had two daughters, Hazel and Josephine Jo-Anne. While her husband, served in the Pacific during World War II, she worked in war factories. After the war, they moved to Brownsville where Jack was a customs officer, and she worked as a bookkeeper at the First National Bank. She joined the Eastern Star. During their retirement, Al and Jack moved to Arroyo City where they fished and traveled to Europe. Her hobbies were fishing, crabbing, crocheting and cooking. Al was a great cook. She was famous for her homemade breads and pastries. br She is survived by her daughter, Jo-Anne.br As per her wishes she will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to donors favorite charity.br
