WESLACO, TX. – Elvira Ofelia Yzaguirre entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, the 27th of April 2022 in the comfort of her Weslaco residence surrounded by her loving family. She was ninety-four years of age.
Elvira was born in San Benito, Texas on March 1, 1928, daughter of the late Elvira Ramirez and Juan N. Gonzales. She graduated from Rio Hondo High School and obtained her associates degree from Durham’s Business College. Elvira went on to work at the Brownsville Housing Authority where she served as office manager for thirty-nine years until her retirement. Her favorite pastimes included fishing, teaching, ceramics and pottery, painting, playing the piano and the organ, as well as sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She also enjoyed traveling with her family. Elvira resided in Brownsville and also lived in College Station, Houston, and Port Isabel before eventually settling in Weslaco.
Preceding Elvira in death were her parents, Elvira Ramirez and Juan N. Gonzales; and her siblings Juan Gonzales, Ovidio Gonzales, Ester Galvan, Ernestina Cuellar, and Guadalupe Rodriguez.
Survivors include the father of her children, Roberto F. Yzaguirre; her children Yolanda “Yoli” Leger, Maria Augustina “Tina” Hinojosa; Elvira Ofelia “Elvi” Yzaguirre, and Roberto “Bobby” G. Yzaguirre; her grandchildren Cathy Saenz, Thomas G. Monclova, Monica Orton, Linda Hinojosa, and Kristina Hinojosa; her great-grandchildren Maggie Hadley, Octavian C. McGuinness-Monclova, Ophelia C. McGuinness-Monclova, Eliana Orton, Lydia Orton, Carlos Parson, David Flores, LeeAnn Alaniz, and Daniel Hinojosa; and her great-great-grandchildren Charles, Henry, and Everette Hadley. She is also survived by numerous extended family members.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, the 1st of May 2022 between the hours of three o’clock in the afternoon and nine o’clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at six o’clock Sunday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
A Chapel Service will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 2nd of May 2022 in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Thomas G. Monclova, Juan Jose Hinojosa, Pablo Muniz III, Carlos A. Parson, David A. Flores, and Tomas Cuellar.
Honorary pallbearers are Arnoldo Gonzalez and Oscar A. Cuellar.
The family expresses their gratitude and thanks to Sylvia Fernandez, Isabel Medelez RN, Frank Gonzalez RN, Eva Vasquez CNA, Maggie Morales CNA, Sharon Moreno and Janie De La Cruz, Maria Toledos and D’Oro Home Health Services, and Ricardo Garcia for the care they provided for Elvira.
