Miss Emilia Gomez, 90, beloved sister, aunt, and greataunt entered into the glory of her eternal life on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Ebony Lake Healthcare Center.
Emilia, affectionately known as Tia Mila by family and friends, was the sixth child born to Tirso Gomez and Casimira Gonzalez Gomez in El Calaboz, Texas. Although Tia Mila never had children of her own, she was a mother to all her nieces and nephews and then mother to their children as well. She was an exceptional cook and was the family Santa Claus at their Christmas celebrations. She will be dearly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.
Emilia was preceded in death by her parents her brother, Calixto Gomez and 4 sisters: Matilde G. Leal, Estela Trevio, Clara McDonald, and Amelia G. Ruiz.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her is her sister, Ester G. Joe J. Polanco her brother, Santos Maria Luz Gomez her first born niece who was like a sister to her, Consuelo L. Lucio, and numerous nieces and nephews as well greatnieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Monday, September 27th in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. Monday evening at DarlingMouser. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 1055 US Military Highway 281, Brownsville, Texas. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Emilias nephews: Daniel Gomez, Leonel Gomez, George Lucio, Jose Luis Lucio, Dylan Polanco, and Joe Polanco are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their aunt. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. Joel Gomez PhD, Santos Gomez Jr., Fermin Leal, Manuel Leal, Ramon Leal, Eduardo McDonald, and Eusebio McDonald.
