BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Emma Jane Rollins Wilhite was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, the 13th of October 2024 from her home in Brownsville. She was 98. She was born to James Ransome Rollins and Emma Elizabeth Deyo Rollins on March 23, 1926 in a house on Elizabeth Street in Brownsville. She graduated from Brownsville High School in 1943 and later studied at Texas Southmost College.
She held numerous clerical and secretarial jobs, from Air Transport Command at the Army base to DPS in Austin, and as a secretary for her husband. She retired from Pan American Bank (Texas Commerce Bank) in 1992.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She had her hands full with five children and 13 grandchildren. She was active in Boy and Girl Scouts for many years, even after her children had grown out of it. She impacted the lives of many a Junior High Girl in Brownsville! She even took a bus load of them to Mexico City in the 70's! What a brave and resourceful lady!
She was an elder at Faith Church Brownsville, where she served faithfully for many years. She had a strong relationship with Jesus since her childhood and continued to go to church online from home after she could no longer go out.
Preceding her in death were her son, David Wilhite in 2010; her “little mama," Emma Elizabeth Rollins; her former husband, Gayle D. Wilhite; her dear sisters Hettie Odabashian, Gladys Brand, and Helen Adams; her brother, Jimmy Rollins; precious niece, Lisa Odabashian; several other nieces and nephews, and a dear great-grandson, Connor Rutledge.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Sallie Morris (Coy) of Mount Airy, Maryland; daughter-in-law, Monica Wilhite, of Georgetown, Texas; Wayne Wilhite (Janis) of Fulton, Texas, Carol du Bois (Ted) of Brownville, and Gary Wilhite (Patty), of Tiki Island, Texas. She also had 13 grandchildren: Colleen Rutledge, Sabrina Morris, Christopher Wilhite, Kevin Wilhite, Mikah Wilhite, Erica Guevara, Theodore duBois III, Gena Hepworth, Thomas du Bois, Cimmaron Lara, Skylar Wilhite, Dustin Wilhite, and Weston Wilhite; 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandsons!
Jane was a very sweet, creative and fun loving woman. She had a great sense of humor and a huge heart. Even to the end, she was always thinking of others and their needs. She trusted Jesus with all her heart and was looking forward to her home going.
