BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Enrique “Henry” Sanchez III entered into eternal rest, peacefully, on Thursday, the 11th of May 2023, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville surrounded by his immediate family members. Henry was born in Brownsville, Texas on October 27, 1954. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Maria Alicia Tijerina Sanchez and the former, Honorable State Representative Henry Sanchez, Jr. He is survived by his siblings David J. Sanchez, Sr. (Catherine), Sonya A. Sanchez Pena (Joel) and Louis E. Sanchez. He is also survived by his nine nieces and nephews, a large extended family, and countless friends.
Henry graduated high school from St. Joseph Academy in 1972. He continued his education at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, graduating in 1977 with a degree in History and Business. While attending Law School, he interned in Washington D.C. for the late Congressman Eligio “Kika" de la Garza II, before working at the State Capital and for The State of Texas.
Henry left politics and began teaching for the Brownsville Independent School District. During this time, Henry's love for soccer took him into coaching which he continued for many years extending beyond his teaching days, leading many teams to championships. He remains close to many of his players to this day.
Henry then moved into the restaurant industry and for the past seventeen years was the proud owner of Chicago Italian in Matamoros, Mexico. He loved traveling, taking cruises, skiing, helping others and sharing stories with all. If he walked into a room, you were soon going to be laughing. He was a generous, kind and loving man with an unparalleled sense of humor who will be missed by so many.
Inurnment will be held at three o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 26th of May 2023 within the Buena Vista Burial Park Mausoleum, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, where Henry will be laid to rest beside his mother and father and several aunts and uncles.
