BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Eva Flores Garza entered into eternal rest on Monday, the 18th of December 2023 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence surrounded by her loving family. She was one hundred and one years old.
Eva was born in Mercedes, Texas on June 16, 1922, daughter of the late Emilio and Genoveva Flores. She was raised in Mercedes before relocating with her family to Brownsville, Texas, where she was educated in a local community church. In 1941, she married the love of her life, Conrado "Lalo" Garza. Their married and hard work gifted them sixteen children, nine girls and seven boys. Her family always kept her close and busy with visits and calls from as far away as Canada. When she was told at the end of a visit that she is loved, she always replied, "I love you more."
Her favorite pastimes included coloring, reading, taking phone calls, and listening to the hummingbirds that visited her daily on the patio. She also enjoyed playing a competitive game of "Chalupa" - every day if she had her way. Eva was an example and teacher of the true meaning of faith, family, and love. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother with a big heart and a contagious smile and laughter.
Preceding her in death was her loving and devoted husband of sixty-one years, Conrado "Lalo" Garza; four of her children Daniel Reynaldo Garza, Eva Melissa Garza, Juan Jose Garza (Lori), and Maria Elena Huerta (Guadalupe+); her parents, Emilio and Genoveva Flores; and her siblings Rafael Flores, Emilio Flores, Celotilde Guerra, Julio Flores, and Minerva Ayala.
Survivors include her twelve children Corina Tijerina, Conrado Garza, Jr., Guillermo Ismael Garza, Vicente Emilio Garza, Flora Estella Tijerina (Samuel), Mario Alberto Garza, Diana May Rocha (Joe), Luis Eugenio Garza, Norma Linda Alaniz (Danny+), Rose Yvonne Torres (Tony+), Elizabeth Ann Garza (Pat), and Monica Ella Garcia (Richard+); forty grandchildren; ninety-six great-grandchildren; and thirty-five great-great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 28th of December 2023 between the hours of ten o’clock in the morning and one o'clock in the afternoon, with a prayer service to begin at twelve noon within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at two o’clock Thursday afternoon at the historic Immaculate Conception Cathedral, 1218 E. Jefferson Street, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
Honored to serve as her pallbearers will be Luis Garza, Michael Torres, David Tijerina, Frank Tijerina, Zeke Miller, and Ernesto Alaniz. Conrado Garza, Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearer.
