Eva Silberman, née Engelsberg, was born as one of a set of twins in 1934 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Eva passed away in her home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, November 5, 2018.
She graduated from the Hebrew Seminary in Buenos Aires and continued her studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. In 1956 she met the love of her life, Sam, whom she married on January 15, 1961 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Eva was active in many endeavors in the local Jewish Community as well as the Brownsville Community at large. She served on numerous boards in positions of leadership, devoting her life to volunteer work and family, including Hadassah Regional President, Temple Bethel Religious School in Brownsville, Hadassah National Board, President of Hadassah in Brownsville, and President of Temple Bethel Sisterhood. She also established Hadassah International, with units in Cuba, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, and China. She was a member of the Junior Service League, Planned Parenthood, and was an American Cancer Society Crusader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Silberman her parents, Jacob Engelsberg (Argentina) and Jane Furer Engelsberg; and by her sister, Julia Engelsberg Saslavsky (Argentina).
She is survived by her daughters, Marsha Hanson and Jacqueline Nirenberg; grandson, Zachary; granddaughter, Abigail Nirenberg; niece, Cinthia Rozanski; nephew, Horacio Rozanski; and her nieces, Miriam and Sammi Rozanski.
Special thanks to two special women, Sixta Garcia and Maria de los Angeles "Gely" Aquino who cared for her and for Sam before her with loving hearts and gentle hands.
A graveside service will be held at the Brownsville Hebrew Cemetery on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 9:00 A.M.
