Fameliza Sanchez

Fameliza Sanchez, 75, of Brownsville, TX, gifted counselor and educator, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville.

"Fame", as she was affectionately known to all, was born in Hebbronville, TX. She came to Brownsville in the summer of 1959, where she would meet Omar Sanchez, the love of her life. They married on Valentine's Day in 1960.

Fame was passionate about education and teaching. Fame dedicated 45 years to the children of Brownsville. She started her teaching career as a Music Teacher at Skinner Elem. in 1964. After obtaining her Master's Degree in Counseling in 1970, Fame went on to teach at TSC for 21 years. She then returned to the BISD for the remaining part of her career as a counselor. Fame touched the lives of countless students during her years as a teacher and counselor. Even after retirement, she continued working as a part-time counselor. After finally retiring, she still continued working as a substitute teacher.

Fame was an incredible woman who had a zest for life that was an inspiration to all. Fame was a devoted Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. Fame was dearly loved and will be profoundly missed by all those who were fortunate to have known her.

Fame is preceded in death by her parents and a brother. Fame is survived by her husband of 56 years, Omar Sanchez; her children, Omar I. Sanchez of Brownsville, Astrid Torres (Dr. Ruben M. Torres, Jr.) of Rancho Viejo and Elise Sanchez of Austin; the three grandchildren that were the apple of her eye, Cameron and Carina Torres and Celeste Sanchez, and numerous extended family members and friends.
