Felipa Gavito Cardenas, 88, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt entered into the glory of her eternal life on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 with her family at her side.

Felipa, was a member of two of Brownsvilles pioneer families, having been born here on February 15, 1919 to Manuel Gavito and Isabel Orive the seventh of their ten children. She was a resident of Brownsville for most of her life, and lived in Austin with her daughter Rosa for twenty years before returning to her beloved hometown two years ago.

She was preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Isabel Gavito; her husband, Cipriano Cardenas; her 3 sisters, Maria Isabel Maguregui, Antonia Castillo, and Maria del Carmen Landin; and her 4 brothers, Manuel, Eduardo, Ernesto, and Roberto Gavito.

Left behind to eternally treasure her memory are her children, Cipriano Antonio and his wife Ester Cardenas, Raul Eduardo Cardenas, both from Brownsville, and Rosa Isabel and her husband Jaime Chahin, from Austin, Texas; the 3 granddaughters that she adored, Rebecca and her husband Frank Wood, from Brownsville; Sandra Chahin, from Miami, FL, and Claudia and her husband Baxter Morgan from Austin, TX; her 2 brothers, Jose Angel and his wife Amparo Gavito and Alfredo and his wife Blanca Gavito, both from Brownsville; her sisters-in-law, Gabriela, Irene, and Olga G. Gavito. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2008 and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary service at 7 p.m. Thursday evening in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Jaime Chahin, Frank Wood, Baxter Morgan, George Gavito, Ricardo Gavito, and Roberto Castillo are honored to be serving as Felipas pallbearers.

Her two surviving brothers Jose Angel and Alfredo Gavito will serve as honorary pallbearers.
