Felix "Phil" J Gauchas

Felix J. Phil Gauchas, 93, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, and uncle entered into the glory of his eternal life on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Retama Manor Nursing Home in Harlingen, Texas with his loving wife Bebe at his side.

Phil, was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from Lindbloom High School, Phil attended and graduated from Chicago Aeronautical University as an aeronautic machinist.

Phil was a proud veteran of WW II having served his country as the Flight Director aboard the USS Attu in the United States Navy. Phil was awarded the Victory Medal American Arena and the Asiatic Pacific 2 Stars. After being honorably discharged, Phil remained in the Chicago area where he owned and operated several automotive glass and upholstery businesses. In 1963, the family moved to Houston, when Phil bought the Dixie Palms Glass Company which he ran until he retired.

After retirement, Phil enrolled at the University of Houston where he took the classes necessary to become a licensed real estate broker. In 1975, Phil and Bebe moved to Rancho Viejo. It was at about that time, that Rancho Viejo was being developed. Phil became of one the principal brokers for Rancho Viejo.

Phil was a longtime member of the Rancho Viejo Country Club where he took advantage of being able to golf pretty much year round. Phil was a member of St. John Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in San Benito. He was also a past member of the American Legion and the Optimist Club.

Phil was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha Gauchas two sisters: Genevieve Michael Brock and Bernice John Russell and a soninlaw, Michael Barnes.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of his is his loving wife of 65 years, Bebe Gauchas the daughter that was his pride and joy, Jennifer Barnes the grandchildren that were the apple of his eye: Sommer and her husband Matt Bell and Justin Lee Barnes and his wife Jessica and three greatgrandchildren: Autumn and Everett Bell and Michael Barnes as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.


In accordance with Phils wishes he has been cremated. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, march 13, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, 1000 N. Crockett, San Benito, Texas.
