McALLEN, TX. - Fernando Becerra, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Monday, the 25th of November 2019 in McAllen, Texas. He was seventy years of age.
Fernando was born to his parents, Fernando and Maria Magdalena Becerra in Brownsville, Texas on August 29, 1949 and was the eldest of his five siblings to come. He went on to complete his Master’s Degree in Psychology at Southwest Texas State University, now known as Texas State University and was last employed with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Food and Nutrition Services in Austin, Texas for numerous years until his retirement. As a devout Catholic, Fernando would recite the Holy Rosary at least once every day and would generously contribute to numerous churches, as well as charities. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling across the United States, visiting forty-nine (49) out of fifty (50) of the states, as well as vacationing in Europe. His mother was his best friend, a friendship and bond which can never be replaced, but always cherished. Fernando will always be remembered as a loving son, a proud uncle and godfather, and a caring individual who provided for all of those whom he knew. He will be missed greatly.
His father, Fernando Becerra; brothers, Eloy Becerra and Oscar Becerra; paternal grandparents, Jesus and Juanita Becerra; and maternal grandparents, Guadalupe and Maria del Jesus Suarez, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving mother, Maria Magdalena Becerra; brother, Oberlin “Lin” Becerra and his wife, Elsa, of Kingsville, Texas; sister, Edna Becerra of McAllen, Texas; sister-in-law, Malai “Ann” Becerra of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nephews, Marcus Lin Becerra and John Joe Becerra and his wife, Beth, both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; niece, Sandra Ann Becerra of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and grand-nephews and grand-nieces Katy Becerra, Tsai Becerra, Tyana Becerra, and Treasure Becerra.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, the 29th of November 2019, between the hours of one o’clock in the afternoon and two o’clock in the afternoon at San Pedro Catholic Church, 7602 Old Military Road, San Pedro, Texas 78520. A recitation of the holy rosary will be recited beginning at two o’clock in the afternoon. A Memorial Mass will follow after the conclusion the rosary at three o’clock in the afternoon. Committal services will immediately follow the funeral mass at El Carmen Cemetery on Highway 281, between Brownsville and San Pedro, Texas.
