Fernando T. Chon Rodriguez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother entered into the glory of his eternal life on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Brownsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, Chon was an Army veteran who proudly served his county in both World War II and the Korean War. He enjoyed playing the accordion and learned how to play simply by watching Narciso Chicho Martinez, whom he later had the pleasure of playing with. His accordion accompanied him while he was in the service and Chon would play it and entertain his fellow soldiers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Eulalia Rodriguez; his sister, Aurora Bazan; and a brother, Samuel T. Rodriguez .
Chon is survived by his wife of 56 years, Oralia Trevio Rodriguez; his son, Fernando G. Celeste Rodriguez; 4 daughters, Eulalia Alberto Tamez, Simona Mona Hernandez, Diana Rodriguez, and Monika Medina; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He will also be deeply missed by his brother, Juan Rodriguez; his 3 sisters, Elena Richardson, Cecilia Leal, and Ernestina Garcia and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with a Chapel Service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 in the West Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2035 under the direction of Commander Luis Lucio will conduct Military honors at graveside.
