Frank Crixell, Sr. passed away on April 10, 2014, surrounded by his family, at his home in Brownsville, Texas. He was born in Brownsville, Texas on January 11, 1912 to a proud pioneer family that helped shape this city.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Marcella G. Crixell his son, Frank Crixell, Jr. his parents, Vicente Crixell and Isabel Zamudio Crixell his brothers and sisters, Louis Crixell, Luciano Crixell, Irene See, Vicente Crixell, Arturo Crixell, Maria Isabel Vela, Elisa Garza, Alfonso Crixell, Adolfo Crixell and Emilio Crixell.
He is survived by his sister, Lydia Reyna his sons and daughters, Alfred Crixell and his wife Yolanda, Mary Crixell Vaughn and her husband Van, Cecilia Crixell and Michael Crixell, as well as daughterinlaw, Anita Rojano Crixell, widow of Frank, Jr. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 24 greatgrandchildren and 5 greatgreatgrandchildren.
Frank devoted his entire life to being a loving husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather. He shared his generous spirit and wisdom freely with those he loved.
He married Marcella G. Crixell in 1933 at the age of twentyone and they celebrated 71 years of marriage. Frank was an avid reader with a passion for learning. He enjoyed travel, politics, sports, TV and sharing good food and laughter with family. By example, he taught his family that life should be lived with strength, integrity, loyalty, humility and pride in hard work. His legacy of might in the face of adversity lives on. He was a devout Catholic who lived his faith daily. He inspired all who knew him with his devotion to God. He opened his heart and shared his strength with his wife, children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, He loved completely and inspired absolute love in return.
Frank was wellknown as an industrious man with an acute business sense. His long career spanned working for the City of Brownsville, the Public Utility Board, the City of Donna, the City of Houston and the Rio Grande Valley Gas Company, all in the utility department. He later founded Crixell Construction Company, a respected utility company responsible for building many significant utility installations throughout Texas, including the pipeline that supplies water to South Padre Island.
DarlingMouser Funeral Home, 945 Palm Blvd., 5467111, will hold visitation on Sunday, April 13, 2014 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited Sunday at 7:00 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Marys Church on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Franks grandsons: Steve Crixell, Charles Crixell, John Crixell, Thad Vaughn, Trent Schulze and Francis Schulze. Following the Mass will be a graveside service at Buena Vista Burial Park at 11:00 a.m.
