George E. Borrego, 65, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville surrounded by his loving family.
George was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. He owned and operated a clothing store for men in downtown Brownsville for several years. After closing his business, George began a teaching career with the BISD that lasted up until his passing. George touched the lives of thousands of our communitys youth as an Economics teacher at Gladys Porter High School where he spent his entire teaching career. George was a strong and dedicated advocate for teachers devoting countless of hours to the AOBE, TSTA, and NEA. George was a faithful and longtime parishioner of St. Marys Parish. George was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Beatriz and Modesto Borrego Lerma, a sister, Maria del Carmen Borrego and four brothers: Juan Manuel, Reynaldo Juan, Adalberto, and Modesto Moe Borrego.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his loving wife of 40 years, Victoria Vicky Hernandez Borrego the three daughters that were his pride and joy: Erika M. Chad C. Chittenden Borrego, Veronica Y.Andy Ramirez Borrego, and Monica L. Borrego the two grandsons that were the apple of his eye: Bradley M. Freeman Jr., and Ethan A. Ramirez and three granddogs.
George will also be missed by his siblings, Beatriz Mario Gutierrez, Rosalinda Ted Rinehart, Roberto A. Art Coco Borrego, and Mary Johnny Cavazos five sistersinlaw, Domitila Borrego, Corina Borrego, Dora Borrego, Lydia Lara and Odette Papadimitriou and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members as well as his many friends.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue through 5:00 p.m. today, Sunday, October 27, 2013 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The recitation of the holy rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. this evening at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road. Visitation will resume at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28th at DarlingMouser with the Funeral Mass scheduled for 3:00 p.m. this afternoon at St. Marys Catholic Church. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Georges sonsinlaw, Chad Chittenden and Andy Ramirez along with his nephews: Rey Borrego, Tato Ayala, Luis Cesar Hernandez, and Carlos Borrego are honored to be serving as his pallbearers. The Faculty, Staff, and Students of the Porter Nation will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In keeping with Georges passion which was education, the family is requesting that in lieu of flowers memorial gifts in his name may be to a scholarship fund which is being set up in his name.
