Geraldine "Jerry" Trevino

BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Geraldine "Jerry" Trevino, our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, the 7th of February 2025, at the age of 92. Born to George Bowers Forrest and Florence Elizabeth (Rattan) Forrest, Jerry lived a life rich in adventure, service, and deep devotion to her family and community.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband, Servando Trevino, and her cherished children, Elizabeth Trevino Mosesman, Melinda Trevino, and Servando Trevino. Her siblings, Wanda Perry, Margaret Weaver, and Chapel Forrest, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Denise Trevino-Gomez and her husband, Ed Gomez. The true light of her life was her beloved grandson Alejandro Trevino-Gomez. She is also survived by her extended family, including Aspen, Alexandria, and Esme, as well as nieces and nephews Shalene, Gary, Jane, Teresa, Eloy, Rene, and Kathy, who were all very dear to her.

Jerry’s real adventures began when she was a newlywed and moved to Mexico City, where she and her husband lived during the early years of their marriage. Later, she settled in Brownsville, Texas, where she spent most of her life and built a lasting legacy in the community.

Jerry was an intrepid traveler, exploring countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, Central and South America, and throughout the United States. Her adventurous spirit led her to break a state fishing record in Alaska with a record-setting salmon catch, and she even helped care for a very sick gorilla during her decades of volunteer work at the Gladys Porter Zoo. A lifelong animal advocate, she dedicated herself to feeding and spaying/neutering stray cats in her community.

Her dedication to service was unwavering. As a young mother, she volunteered for the American Heart Association and was an active member of the Brownsville Junior Service League, where she assisted in immunizing children in need. She served on the boards of the American Cancer Society and the Valley Zoological Society of Gladys Porter Zoo and was a longtime member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.), a sisterhood dedicated to motivating, educating, and empowering women. Additionally, she was an active member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, a lineal association dedicated to perpetuating the memory of the founding families and soldiers of the Republic of Texas and the original caretakers of the Alamo. She was also an active member of the Pan-American Round Table of Texas, which focused on supporting scholarships for local high school students.

Jerry's young professional life was as dynamic as her personal one. She worked as a stockbroker and delivered a daily stock market radio report, showcasing her keen intellect and business acumen.

Her love and knowledge of music were extraordinary. Even at 92 years old, she never missed an opportunity to discover new music and never stopped dancing. She fostered a deep appreciation for music in her grandson, taking him to concerts spanning various genres, from Yanni to The Piano Guys to Andre Rieu to local concerts. Her love of nature and gardening was equally profound, she nurtured a thriving garden filled with fresh basil and herbs.

Above all, Jerry was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She cherished her social circles and was an active member of the Serape Club, the Order of the Serape, and the Wednesday Study Group, where she served as president for several years. She also enjoyed her weekly bunco games with the ladies, with Alejandro often stepping in as a substitute from a young age.

Jerry’s legacy is one of love, generosity, curiosity, and an unwavering spirit of adventure. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
