SAN PEDRO, TX. – Mrs. Gertrudis H. Garcia, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, entered into the glory of her eternal life on Sunday, the 6th of August 2023, at Fox Hollow Post Acute in Brownsville, Texas, surrounded by her loving children. She was ninety-two years of age.
Gertrudis was born in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and lived the majority of her life in San Pedro, Texas, where she raised her seven children. Gertrudis was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.
Preceding Gertrudis in death was her beloved husband of fifty-four years, Mr. Alberto D. Garcia; her son, Gregorio “Goyo” Garcia; her parents, Casimiro Hernandez and Reynalda Cantu Hernandez; and five of her siblings.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are her children Mary D. Garcia, Joe A. Garcia, Sandra (Jesse) Elizondo, Sara (Alfonso) Garay, Rafael (Aida) Garcia, and Esmeralda Garcia; her sixteen grandchildren; her twenty-five great-grandchildren; her sister, Oralia Hernandez Cantu; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 10th of August 2023 between the hours of twelve noon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Thursday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 11th of August 2023 at San Pedro Catholic Church, 7602 Old Military Road, Brownsville. All services will conclude after the mass. Cremation will follow.
The family will gather for a private inurnment at Sabas Cavazos Cemetery in San Pedro, where Gertrudis will be laid to rest beside her husband.
Michael Garcia, Kayla Ptacnik, Justin Garcia, A. J. Garay, Jacob Garcia, Alberto Garay, and Joshua Garcia are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their grandmother.
