Gloria C. Crixell

Gloria Cardoza Crixell, 101, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 22, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. The eldest daughter of the union of two ranching and farming families, Gloria was born in Mendes, Tamaulipas, Mexico on Dec. 4, 1912. During the Mexican Revolution, her parents brought her to Brownsville to live with her grandparents for her protection. She attended and graduated from Brownsville Public Schools with an educational emphasis in home economics, her lifelong passion.

Gloria later met the love of her life, Vincent Crixell, Jr., a member of a pioneer Brownsville family. It was love at first sight for both and they were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. While living with Vincents parents, she expanded her cooking skills by learning generations of old SpanishFrenchCatalan recipes from her motherinlaw. She delighted in sharing these recipes with her daughtersinlaw and her granddaughters. Her favorite instructions in the kitchen were, Un chilito, un tomatito, y mucho amor.

Gloria was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother who gave her all to her family. She was strict religion teacher when she guided her sons through their preparation for Catholic Sacraments. She was also very active in the Golden Eagle Band Booster Club when her sons were band members. To help defray college expenses for her sons, Gloria worked at Ralphs in Palm Village. She will be remembered as a doting, pampering, grandmother who spent countless hours spoiling her five granddaughters, joining them on adventures, and sometimes misadventures. Gloria was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family but also by all those fortunate to have known her.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Crixell Jr. her parents, Eugenia Leal and Miguel Cardoza and four of her siblings.

Gloria is survived by two sons: Vincent L. Martha Crixell III and Adolph E. Gloria Crixell five granddaughters: Viveca Nick Serafy, Monique Roger Keller, Laurette John Kirby, Patrice Chad McAllister, and Annette Alex Camacho thirteen greatgrandchildren: Niko Jenna, Paul Lauren, Jason, and Clayton Serafy Ricco Juarez Haley, Houtson, and Westin Kirby , Taylor, Madison, and Chase McAllister and Natalia and Daniela Camacho two greatgreatgrandchildren: Ryleigh and Nicholas Serafy and two of her siblings: along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
