Gloria C Newell

Gloria C. Newell, age 85, entered into eternal life on March 17, 2012 at Brownsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born December 1926, in the home where she resided all of her life. Her parents were Francisca Panchita Cantu Campbell and Robert Lee Campbell. Gloria was raised by her mother because her father passed away when she was 6 yrs. old. She attended Incarnate Word Academy and graduated from Villa Maria High School.

Gloria worked at Aziz Bros. and later married Joseph C Newell. After marriage, she dedicated her life to raising her family and taking care of her mother. Gloria was a life long active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church where she served on the Parish Board, and was a Eucharistic as well as a lay minister. She also volunteered her services at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral for 12 yrs. She was presented with a plaque in 2009 in recognition of all her dedication and years of service to St. Thomas church.

Gloria also volunteered her services at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Nursing Home for numerous years. She spent many years of her life nursing her mother, husband, and sister when they became ill. She also helped other homebound relatives by doing their grocery shopping and taking them warm meals.

Gloria was a past member of Senior Friends until her health kept her from being able to keep up with the activities. She enjoyed family gatherings, reading novels, completing word search puzzles, going to the casinos in Las Vegas and Louisiana, and watching Dancing with the Stars.

Gloria also hosted a weekly prayer group in her home with her friends from St. Thomas Church. They prayed the Holy Rosary, discussed Scripture, and then shared dinner. This tradition continued at the nursing home up until the time of her passing. She has earned her eternal rest.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Raquel C. Gomez, her husband, Joseph C Newell, and her son, Joseph C Butch Newell Jr.

Survivors include her children: Robert L. Dora Newell of McAllen, Gloria Jean Mike Samano of League City, Sandra S. Ronnie Bennett of Brownsville, and Frank A. Lisa Newell of Corpus Christi a daughterinlaw, Adelina Newell of Brownsville, TX ten grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. She will also be missed by her nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and a host of friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 P.M. in the East Chapel at Darling Mouser. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 155 E. Jefferson St., Brownsville, TX.

Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Glorias sons, Robert and Frank Newell her grandsons, Joshua and Jonathon Newell along with Armando Garcia, and Aaron Garza are honored to be serving as her pallbearers.

Ronnie Bennett and Mike Samano will serve as honorary pallbearers.
