Gordon Lincoln Kronstad Eriksen, 90, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on May 20, 2011.
Born on February 12, 1921, in Brooklyn, New York, Gordon was the tenth of twelve children born to Norwegian immigrants Erik Eriksen and Klara Pauline Kronstad Eriksen. He grew up in New York, worked briefly in Bermuda as a journeyman carpenter, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and specialized in fishery products inspection for the U.S. Department of Commerce. When he retired at age 75, he remained active, serving the Lord by working with missionaries, ministers and churches in Mexico. Building church pews and taking food supplies to Mexico for several years, he had compassion for those in need.
Gordon was a talented vocalist who enjoyed writing music and lyrics. He loved to cook for large crowds and was known for his brownies. Making people feel loved and welcome was a priority in his life. As an active member of First Baptist Church, Brownsville, he sang in the choir, hosted Sunday School gatherings, and loved learning more about the Word of God.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Eriksen children, Gilbert Valerie Eriksen, William Connie Eriksen, Steven Eriksen, AJ Eriksen and Melody Eriksen stepchildren Brandy Joel Flores and Jerry McKnight grandchildren David Leslie Eriksen, Christy Ron Sisk, Nathan Nicole Eriksen, Laura Eriksen, Jason Eriksen, Darren Eriksen, Sharon Eriksen and Jessica Eriksen great niece Abigail Wilcox and numerous nieces, nephews and greatgrandchildren.
A service in celebration of his life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25th at First Baptist Church, Brownsville. In lieu of flowers, in honor of Gordon, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church Mexico Missions.
