Graciela "Chela" Calzada Acres

BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Graciela Calzada Acres, affectionately known as Chela by many, beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, the 28th of September 2024 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence, that she shared with her loving husband, after a bravely fought battle with cancer. She was 74 years of age.

Chela was born on October 15, 1949 in Brownsville, Texas, daughter of Ernesto T. Calzada and Matilde Montes Calzada. She attended Ebony Heights Elementary, Stell Junior High, and graduated from Homer Hanna High School. A devout Catholic, Chela was a member of The Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She loved her family and never turned away a person in need. No sacrifice was too much, no favor was too big. She proudly served her church at The Lord of Divine Mercy Parish.

Her love of nature, art and painting, dancing, and gardening was a passion and constant source of happiness for her. She was most happy taking videos and pictures of her family and friends and sharing them later was an even greater source of joy for her. She loved the beach and never stopped wanting to go back to visit California. Some of her favorite sayings included "Some rules were meant to be broken" and "I love you to the moon and back." Our mother was full of love and she will be greatly missed.

Preceding Chela in death are her father, Ernesto T. Calzada, and her sisters, Leticia Amador and Consuelo Mejorado.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, Robert Wilheim Acres; her daughters, Cynthia Acres and Victoria Acres; her mother, Matilde Montes Calzada; her grandsons, Robert Joseph Falconio and Anthony Benjamin Falconio; and her three sisters Maria King, Ernestina Ramey, Manuela Moore.
