BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Graciela “Gracie” Rocha, affectionately known as Princess Grace, entered into eternal rest, due to complications that arose from a massive stroke in July 2020, at a quarter till four o’clock in morning on Friday, the 24th of March 2023 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence with her daughter and family by her side. She was seventy-seven years of age.
Gracie was born one day shy of Halloween, on October 30, 1945, in Brownsville, Texas, daughter of the late Roberto Rocha and Josefa Ramos Rocha. She was raised in Brownsville where the family resided on E. Jackson Street, “El 421,” and attended Brownsville schools, graduating from Brownsville High School, Class of 1964. Gracie worked as a clerk at The Texas Department of State Health and Human Services until her retirement. Her favorite pastimes included watching football (especially The Dallas Cowboys!), The Golden Girls, various talk shows and game shows, and she tried to never miss any Christmas movies. She loved anything related to Christmas, the 4th of July, and Halloween. Gracie also loved to make treats for co-workers and friends, enjoyed coffee, brunch, and being at home with her family.
Preceding Gracie in death here her parents, Roberto Rocha and Josefa Ramos Rocha; her sister, Olivia Rocha; and her brothers, Roberto “Bebe” Rocha, Raul Rocha, Ruben Rocha, Rene Rocha, and Rudy Rocha.
Survivors include her loving and devoted daughter, Tracy-Jo Rocha (Jay R. Hicks); her brother, Rogelio “Rocky” Rocha (Rosalinda “Rosie”); and her sisters, Norma Hernandez and Julia Ybarra. She also leaves behind two elderly, but very much looked after and loved Chihuahuas, Booba and Negro, and one feisty, but lovable cat, Miss Kitty.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, the 29th of March 2023 between the hours of twelve noon and nine o'clock at night, with a recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Wednesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. All services will conclude Wednesday night. Cremation will follow.
