Harry Raymond Long, Sr., 81, of Brownsville, entered into eternal rest on November 19, 2008 at Valley Regional Medical Center.
Harry was born in Houma, Louisiana on April 19, 1927 to Charles Dennis and Emily C. Long. He was a Veteran of Foreign Wars having served in the United States Army for four years, and did a tour of duty in Italy with the Blue Devils Infantry Division. He moved to Brownsville in 1949, where he met and married Maria de la Luz Castillo. He was in the shrimping industry since the age of 16, from which he established the Long Shrimp Company, Inc. He continued to be involved with the business along with his sons after his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Maria de la Luz Long, his brother, Charles R. Long, and his sister, Dorothy L. Authement.
He leaves behind his sister, Emeline Cunningham, his sons, Reynaldo Lavinia Long, Sr. and Harry R. Danielle Long, Jr., his grandchildren, Reynaldo Long, Jr., Shelbi Marie Long, and Aiden Curtis Long, and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will begin Sunday, November 23, 2008 at 11a.m., and continue until 9p.m., in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser. Visitation will resume on Monday, November 24, at 9a.m., with the recitation of the holy rosary to be held at 7:30p.m., in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser. Mass of Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, November 25, at 10a.m., at St. Marys Catholic Church with entombment to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Military Honors will be conducted at the mausoleum by the V.F.W. Post 2035 under the direction of Commander Luis Lucio.
Pallbearers will be Thomas I. Monterrubio, Ernie L. Hernandez, Cornelio Renteria, Jr., Louis H. Ara, III, Troy Authement, Francisco Javier Alonso, Elmer Lambkin and David Cunningham.
