Helmi Lents Kaevando, 89, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at her residence in Port Isabel.
She was born near Haapsalu, Estonia on October 11, 1924 to Anton and Leena Elster Lents. She was the middle child of three. She married Roman Ray Kaevando in January 1944 in Ridala, Estonia.
Helmi was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Leena Lents her older sister Benita her younger brother Valdi and her husband Ray.
Helmi was the best mom in the world. She was loved dearly by many friends who remember her as a great hostess who insisted on feeding anyone who entered their home. She loved plants and had one of the greenest thumbs in Port Isabel. Neighbors will remember her for her daily mile walks.
For a small woman, Helmi was very tough. She beat cancer three separate times: stomach, colon and breast. Helmi has left this earth but we know she will be lovingly watching over us and will be always remembered for her love and kindness.
Helmi is survived by two daughters, Esther Billy Kenon of Port Isabel and Carmen Ron Hicks of Weslaco one granddaughter, Dallas Tallinn Neil Jones of Corpus Christi stepgrandchildren, Mandy Kenon of Harlingen, Curtis Heather Kenon of Bayview, Grant Hicks of Kansas City and Haley Eric Oyler of Austin and eight greatgrandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2014 in the DarlingMouser Funeral Home Chapel, 945 Palm Blvd..
A chapel service will held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014 in the DarlingMouser Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leo Symmank officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Brownsville.
Honored to be serving as Helmis pallbearers are Billy Kenon, Ron Hicks, Curtis Kenon and Neil Jones.
