Henry A. Tamayo, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather who was born on September 13, 1922, entered peacefully into eternal rest during the early morning hours on Friday, May 8, 2009, at his home in Brownsville.
Henry, best known for his zest for life, strong will, unconditional love for his family, quick wit, and encyclopedic memory, lived his last years on this earth acknowledging that he was fortunate to be around to spend another day enjoying life, his family, and a hearty bowl of ice cream every evening.
A native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, Henry was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army. He enjoyed reminiscing with family and educating his grandchildren, the young ones, of this border-towns history and the life he and his wife lived before the young ones were born. Some of his favorite pastimes included watching and playing baseball, and treating his lady, Lalita, to an afternoon merienda every day. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Marys Catholic Church. A staunch Democrat, Henry considered himself to be Brownsvilles MOST LOYAL Democrat.
Henrys memory will forever be in the hearts of his family, as he is remembered as a generous and loving husband, father, grand-father and uncle. Henry will be greatly missed by all those fortunate to have known him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Tony Tamayo; and his sisters, Enriqueta Sada, Teresa Recio, Rosa Gomez, and Josephine Tullbane.
Left behind to eternally treasure his memory is his wife of 58 years; Adelaida Lalita Tamayo; his children: Robert and his wife Catherine Tamayo, Gloria and her husband Manuel Benavides, Adrian Landy and his wife Cindy Tamayo and Rene Tamayo; the 4 grandchildren that were his pride and joy: Ricky Amber Benavides, Meredith Vincent Morales, Ryan Tamayo, and Joey Benavides along with several nephews and one niece.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., today, Sunday, May 10, 2009 in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser and continue until 9 p.m. The recitation of the holy rosary will be at 7 p.m. this evening at Darling-Mouser. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 2009 at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Robert Tamayo, Manuel, Ricky, and Joey Benavides, Ryan Tamayo, and Vincent Morales are honored to be serving as Henrys pallbearers. The American Legion Post 43 Honor Guard under the direction of Commander Raul Leal will be providing military honors at the graveside.
