Henry Edward Thomas, 91, died at his residence in Brownsville Texas Thursday, June 19, 2014.

Henry was born in Wharton Texas the eldest son of E.W. and Beatrice Thomas. During World War II he was a radio officer in the Army stationed in the Aleutian Islands. In 1948 he moved to Brownsville where he was employed at Pan American as a radio operator and it was there that he met and married Irene Cantu Thomas. Going to school at night he obtained his teaching certificate and became an electronics teacher at McAllen High School and later at Harlingen High School. Retiring from teaching he started working as a radio officer on oil tankers and traveled the world. His fondest memory was as a radio officer aboard the Discovery Ship, Atlantis.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years Irene and son Gary. He is survived by his brother Frank Runnels and sisters Ruby Camery and Lee Garvin his children, Elizabeth Hogan, Paul Thomas and John Thomas, four grandchildren, Danika Boyle, Amanda Honeycutt, Jarrod Thomas, Alyssa Thomas and a great grandson, Charlie Boyle. Private services will be held at the Thomas family home at 5 p.m. Saturday the 25th.
