BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Hesiquio Perez entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, the 8th of June 2022 in the comfort of his Brownsville residence. He was eighty-five years of age.
Hesiquio was born on the 5th of February 1937 in San Diego, Texas, son of the late Enrique G. Perez and Juanita Gonzalez de Perez. He attended schools in San Diego and in 1955 graduated from St. Edwards High School in Austin, Texas. He enlisted in the United States Army where he was trained for radar repairman. In 1956, he was assigned to the Seventh Army in West Germany.
In 1958, Hesiquio came home and enrolled in Del Mar College in Corpus Christi. In August 1961, he received a B.S. Degree in Education and Mathematics from Texas A&I University in Kingsville. The next month, he was hired by the Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) where he met the love of his life, Sylvia Gonzales. They married July 7, 1962.
Hesiquio returned to Texas A&I University where in 1970, he obtained an M.S. Degree in Educational Administration and History. Hesiquio also received certification in Guidance Counseling from Pan American University in Edinburg. In 1977, he became the Principal of Egly Elementary School. In 1993, he retired from the BISD with thirty-two years of service.
After retirement, Hesiquio went back to work as a Special Education Counselor with the San Benito CISD.
Hesiquio loved to take pictures of his family and family gatherings, reading borderland history, and researching his family history. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church where he taught CCD classes. Hesiquio was a life member of both 3rd and 4th Degrees of the Knights of Columbus.
Preceding Hesiquio in death was his loving wife of over fifty years, Sylvia Gonzales Perez.
Survivors include his two children, Enrique M. “Henry” Perez (Kim Rowlands) of Austin, Texas and Lucilla P. “Lucy” Perez (Otis Bouwsma) of Brownsville, Texas; three grandchildren: Christopher Laird, Allyson Perez, and Mark Perez; and his sister, Anita Sylvia (Raul Saenz) of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, the 13th of June 2022 between the hours of five o’clock in the afternoon and nine o’clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock Monday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at one o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 14th of June 2022 at St. Luke Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Drive, Brownsville. All services will conclude at the church.
The family will gather for a private committal service at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
Honored to serve as his pallbearers will be Homer Gonzales, Rico Tamayo, Christopher Laird, Rene Montalvo, Zack Bouwsma, and Enrique Manuel Perez. Honorary pallbearers are Marcus Montalvo, Michael Montalvo, DJ Gracia, Justin Gonzales, Carl Saenz, and Geoffrey Shimotsu.
