Horacio Gomez, 76, beloved husband, father, and grandfather entered into the glory of his eternal life on Friday, November 30, 2007 at Solara Hospital in Brownsville surrounded by his loving family.
A native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, Horacio proudly served our country by enlisting in the United States Army on June 13, 1949. He spent r years overseas during the Korean War. On August 29, 1952 he was given an honorable discharge and her returned to Brownsville. Horacio worked at the Port of Brownsville Shrimp Basin and also with the Brownsville Independent School District until he retired. Horacio enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, listening to country music and watching football, he was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Horacio was preceded in death by his parents, Margarito and Inez Gomez; a sister and brother-in-law Elia and Eduardo Garcia; and 3 brothers Enrique, Alberto, and Margarito Gomez.
Left behind to eternally treasure his memory is his wife of 53 years Oralia V. Gomez; his son Jesse V. and his wife Enriqueta Gomez and their son Jesse R. Gomez, Jr.; his daughter Rosalinda and her husband Reynaldo Castillo and their daughters Miranda and Serena; 1 brother, Alfredo and his wife Bunny Gomez; 2 sisters, Evangelina Chickie and her husband Antonio Villarreal and Inez and her husband Leonel Tamez; and 2 sisters-in-law Marcelle Gomez and Santos Tita Gomez. He will also be missed by his numerous nieces and nephews.
All services for Mr. Gomez will take place in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007 and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. this evening. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be conducted at graveside under the direction of the American Legion Post 43 Honor Guard under the direction of Commander Raul Leal.
Jesse V. Gomez, Alfredo Gomez, Reynaldo Castillo, David Rocha, Armando Rocha, and Manuel Rocha are honored to be serving as Horacios pallbearers.
Jesse R. Gomez, Jr. will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
