Hortensia Tencha Martinez, 86, our beloved mother, motherinlaw, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sisterinlaw, aunt, and friend entered into the glory of her eternal life on Saturday, May 12, 2012 surrounded by her loving family at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville.
Tencha as she was affectionately known to all had been a resident of Brownsville for most of her life. She was well known in our community as La Seora de los Rosales since she sold rose bushes out of her home for many years. She was an exceptional cook and her banana pudding was absolutely the best. She was a wonderful person who gave her all to everyone. Tencha, the Matriarch of our family, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother. Tencha was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.
Tencha was preceded in death by her husband Gilberto Martinez Sr her parents, a brother, and several brothers and sistersinlaw.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are her loving children: Mary Charles Varnam, Ildefonso Junie Irene Silguero Jr., Gilberto Martinez Jr., Sandra Martinez Gonzalez, Alberto Chuca Martinez, Hector Martinez, and Oscar Jovita Martinez fifteen grandchildren: Anissa, Chuck, Danny, Leif, Amanda, Tommie, Anitra, Amiee, Hector, Oscar, Analissa, Justin, Aissa, Ally and Avy five greatgrandchildren: Nicolette, Morgan, Noah, Briana, and Sebastian three sistersinlaw: Beatrice Bea Lopez, Ofelia File Joe Molina, and Josefina Martinez and numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members, and a host of friends.
Visitation will begin at 12 Noon and continue through 9 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2012 with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. Monday evening in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser. The Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1200 Lincoln St. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Tenchas grandsons: Charles Chuck and Leif Varnam, Danny Silguero, Tommie Gonzalez, Hector, Oscar, and Justin Martinez along with her greatnephew, I. Valentin Mata Jr. are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their beloved grandmother and greataunt. Tenchas five sons: Junie, Toe, Chuca, Hector, and Oscar along with her nephew Ignacio Valentin Chivito Mata will be serving as honorary pallbearers.
Tenchas family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Fabiola Santa Ana, her provider and companion for the past seven years for the excellent care that she provided to their mother. Special thanks also to the nurses and staff in the ICU at Valley Regional Medical for their tender and compassionate care.
