Ignacia Baker, affectionately known as Nachita Baker passed away on Monday, September 7, 2009 surrounded by her family in Brownsville. She was a lifelong resident of Brownsville, and one of the things she most enjoyed was telling stories to her grandchildren of old Brownsville events. She had a way about her that friends and family liked to be around her to listen to those wonderful old Brownsville stories she told.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Baker, son, Richard Edward Baker, sisters, Rita Perez of San Antonio, Isabel Red Garcia, and Maria Becerril of Brownsville. Mrs. Baker retired from the City of Brownsville Municipal Court in 1982; she loved her work and enjoyed it for over 15 years.

She is survived by a son, Charles V. Baker and his wife, Minnie; a daughter, Mary Bertha Baker-Carinhas of Fort Lauderdale, FL; sister, Marta F. Cisneros of Brownsville; grandchildren, Charles Michael Baker, Christine MichelleRicky Gonzalez of Brownsville, James Carinhas of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Cindy James Baker-Bailey of Austin, TX, Rita Baker of New York, NY, and Rebecca Baker-Graves of Austin, 4 great-grandchildren and 38 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2009 with the recitation of the holy rosary to be held at 7p.m., in the Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10a.m., Thursday, September 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 555 W. St. Francis St., Brownsville, TX with interment following the mass at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Honored to be serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews, Charles Michael Baker, James Bailey, James Carinhas, Bill Garcia, Gary Garcia and Ricky Gonzalez. Honorary pallbearers will be Police Ret. Capt. Ruben S. Garcia, Sr., State District Judge Arturo C. Nelson, Ramon Buddy Becerril, and Ernesto Neto Cisneros.

The family wishes to thank and express their appreciation to Dr. Florina Duazo for her loving care and efforts.
