Irene C. Gavito

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Irene C. Gavito entered into the glory of her eternal life on Wednesday, the 18th of September 2019 at her residence in Brownsville, Texas. She was ninety-two years old.

Irene was an educator, a devoted wife, and an amazing and loving mother, grandmother, and soon to be great-grandmother. A devout woman of her Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of the historic Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brownsville, Texas and attended mass every Sunday until she was unable to do so and recited the Holy Rosary every evening before going to bed. She was an avid seamstress, crafting beautiful quilts, pillows, clothing, and crotchet, often gifting her tailored creations to family and friends on numerous occasions. Her favorite song was “Granada” in which she would play on the piano in her living room as her family enjoyed gathering around listening to her gifted pianist skills. She had the opportunity to take care of her grandson, Ricardo, while her daughter, Judith, was in school and instilled within him a deep love for Wal-Mart, where you could find the two of them shopping within almost every day of the week. Irene will be dearly missed by all of those fortunate enough to have known her.

Her husband, Ernesto Gavito; and parents, Ramon and Irene Capistran, preceded her in death.

Left behind to eternally treasure the memories they have of her is her daughter, Edna Judith Lukic and her husband, Dwight D. Bowen; her grandson, Airman First Class (A1C) Ricardo E. Castro and his wife, Ciara; great-granddaughter on the way, baby Liara; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended family members, and her longtime caregivers.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, the 21st of September 2019 between the hours of five o’clock and nine o'clock at night, with a recitation of the holy rosary to be held at seven o'clock Saturday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

Local funeral services will conclude at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home Saturday evening. A private interment will be held in San Antonio, Texas at a later date.
