Iris Aylene Castro

Iris Aylene Unruh Castro, 72, joined her heavenly family on May 18, 2011 in Omaha, NE while visiting her son and his family. Born on a farm near Dolton, SD on January 25, 1939, Iris had lived in Brownsville for 33 years.

After graduating from the Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, SD in June 1957, Iris served the people of several cities as a nurse before her retirement from Brownsville Medical Center, on May 22, 2001.

She also served as a lector at St. Marys Catholic Church for the past 18 years. Iris will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Mrs. Castro is preceded in death by, Oscar Castro Hamilton M.D., her beloved husband of 31 years at the time of his death in 1992, and by her loving parents, Alvin H. and Mary Lucille Unruh.

Left to celebrate her life are her children her pride and joy her son, Ed Jody Castro, of Omaha, NE, and daughters, Maria E.J. Martinez, of Brownsville, and Marcela Danny Buentello, of Lake Jackson, TX. Also remaining to accept their inheritance of grace and love are her five granddaughters who always brought a radiant smile to her face: Carolina and Sofia Castro, Mia and Mandy Martinez, and Avery Iris Buentello.

Mrs. Castro is also survived by her sister and friend, Allison Bill Keane, of Davis, CA and her niece Christina Watts and her nephews: Will Keane, Joshua Keane, Josiah Keane, and Zachary Keane.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 22 and continue through 6 p.m. in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 7 p.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Rd., with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at St. Marys. Fr. Mike Buentello, a close family friend will be celebrating the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2011 at St. Marys Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Ed Castro, E.J. Martinez, Danny Buentello, Robert Morgan, Luis Buentello and Joshua Keane are honored to be serving as Iris pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Keane and Eddie Martinez.
