Irma Solis Walk

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Irma Solis Walk, ninety-six, passed away to be with our Lord on Wednesday, the 27th of March 2024, at Bella Villa Assisted Living in Brownsville.

Irma was born on September 17, 1927, in Mexico to the late Mr. Telesforo S. Solis and Mrs. Maria del Refugio Gomez Solis, pioneer descendants of Francisco Solis. 

Preceding Irma in death were her parents; her baby daughter, Juanita Tejeda Solis; her first husband, Rolando Tejeda; her second husband, Elmer Walk; her sisters Margaret S. Para, Sara S. Lerma, Elvia S. Yarbrough, Maria Isabel S. Thomas, Maria Elena S. Cruz, Ofelia S. de la Llata, Rosa S. Worden; and her brother, Telesforo “Tony” Solis Gomez.

Mrs. Walk is survived by her sons, Rolando Tejeda II and Hector Tejeda (Ana Cristina Martinez); her daughters, Irma Sandra Tejeda (Alberto Najera) and Aminda Tejeda Sneed; her sister, Sylvia Solis Blackmore; her sister-in-law, Norma Solis; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Walk will be dearly missed by all who knew her and remembered for all her accomplishments. Irma began her career in sales with Sears Roebuck Company from 1956 through 1971, Curtis Mathis from 1974 to 1977, and The Bargain Book from 1978 through 1979. After receiving her real estate license in 1978, she began her real estate selling career at Nusbaum Realty in 1979. She opened her own real estate company, Irma Walk Real Estate, in 1983. Mrs. Walk was a member of the local Chapter of Women’s Council of Realtors and a member of the Brownsville/South Padre Island Board of Realtors since 1979. One of her proudest moments was in 2000, when at the age of seventy-three, she went back to school and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Texas at Brownsville. Upon completion, she worked as a teacher for the Brownsville Independent School District for several years in the 3-Year-Old Program at Victoria Heights Elementary School. All throughout this time she continued working in the real estate business. In 2015, upon approval of a resolution by the Board of Realtors, it was resolved that September 10, 2015, be proclaimed “Irma Walk Day” honoring her for her admirable and unselfish service. In 2019 in recognition for her over forty years as a realtor she was also bestowed the status of Realtor Emeritus by the National Association of Realtors. She continued to enjoy her work up until her illness in December 2023.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, the 2nd of April 2024 between the hours of one o’clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Tuesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 3rd of April 2024 at St. Luke Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Drive, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
