Jack Richard Cass, Sr.

SAN ANTONIO, TX. – Jack Richard Cass Sr. 85, greatly beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend was welcomed into the joyful reality of his salvation, Monday, August 30, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. "Rick" had recently returned to San Antonio, relocating from Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Richard, affectionately known as "Papaw", was born on January 30, 1936 in Great Bend Kansas.

He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard retiring in Brownsville, Texas. After retiring from the service, he graduated from Pan American University, with a degree in Business Administration. He worked as a purchasing agent, retiring from the Sheraton Resort on South Padre Island, Texas.

He actively served as a Deacon of First Baptist Church in Brownsville, joyfully singing in the choir, teaching adults in Sunday School, and children in Vacation Bible School, and assisting with the SBTC Disaster Relief Ministry. He also actively served as a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, counseling and teaching adults in Sunday School in the Helping Hand Ministry. He was also a member of Haven Heights Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Richard lived a life of adventure while serving in the Coast Guard. He especially enjoyed being stationed in Kodiak Island, Alaska, and respectfully appreciated all the Alaskan outdoors had to offer. He was a Master Craftsman and built incredible things. He enjoyed working in the yard, caring for beautiful flowers and rose bushes. He enjoyed decorating for Christmas with millions and millions of lights and displaying all the Christmas figurines he had hand made. He had a passion for the culinary arts, and enjoyed cooking, grilling, and preparing family dinners. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and skills as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed teaching strategies for playing chess and spades. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan.  What he enjoyed the most, was teaching God's Truth, and God's plan of salvation. He wanted everyone to enjoy Heaven and being in the eternal Presence of Jesus. Oh, he also enjoyed the inspiring music of the Gaither Vocal Band. Papaw called them, the "Gunthers".

Richard is preceded in death by his loving parents, Genevia "Jean", and Adolph "Tex" Campa, his first wife of 49 years, Julia Rose Cass, and his second wife of 9 years, Zona Ruth Cass.

Left to treasure Papaw's memories are his son and daughter-in-law, Jack R. Cass Jr. and Cynthia Cass of Harlingen, daughter, Kimberly Cass of San Antonio, step-daughter Tracey Briscoe of Fort Smith, and step-son, Albert Roberg Jr. of Chicago. Left to further cherish Papaw's memories are his grandchildren, Matthew Cass and his wife, Jen, of Malakoff, Sarah Cass of San Antonio, Serenity Royce of Fort Smith, Sunday Chapman and her husband J.J. of Pocola, Oklahoma, Arianna Cass of Harlingen, and great-grandchildren Cheyenne Moore of Fort Smith, and Mateo, Marlowe, and Malachi Cass of Malakoff. Left to further treasure and cherish Papaw's memories are his brother and sister-in-law, James and Suzanne Campa of Sequin, sister-in-law, Helen Renot of Lavaca, Arkansas, brothers and sisters-in-laws, Alice Sanders of Kosciusko, Mississippi, Mike and Susan Guercio of Venice, Florida, and Sunny "Brother" and Linda Bradshaw of Fairhope, Alabama; cousins, Larry Reid of Driftwood, Texas, and Patricia Reid of New Ulm, Texas; nieces and nephews, Shawn Pitsco of Wister Oklahoma, Shilow Pitsco of Pocola, Oklahoma, Trina Wilkins of Austin, Gardiner Garrison of Houston, Amber Reid of Austin, Danny and Margaret Rose Walker of Collierville, Tennesse, John Michael and Teresa Guercio of Jerseyville, Illinois, Keith Guercio of Venice, Florida, Brad and Dawson Morgan of Fairhope, Alabama; extended family, Anne "Doll" Milburn of Oxford Mississippi, Harper and Virginia Young of Oxford Mississippi, Margery Smith Beck of Omaha, Nebraska, Brandon and Angel Smith of Oxford, Mississippi, Dickie and Emily Smith of Cleveland, Mississippi, Marshall and Jill-Curry Henderson of Fort Payne, Alabama, and Chris and Hayden Smith of Helena, Alabama, David Smith of Cleveland, Mississippi, and numerous friends. Thank you so much to everyone for praying for Papaw. Each one of you impacted his life.

Two special friends that will miss Papaw, are "Jane", his nephew's elderly Pitbull, and "MeMe" his great granddaughter's Miniature Pinscher. These two ladies came to live with Papaw, and they all became the best of friends. Jane is now living with Shilow, and MeMe is living her best alpha life with Sunday, and JJ, and their dogs, Winston, Zeke, and Duke.

Semper Paratus, the motto of the United States Coast Guard, means "Always Ready". Papaw had a personal relationship with Jesus and was always ready. He desires the same for each of you.

A Memorial Service will be held at half past ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 1st of October 2021 within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The family will gather for a graveside service at twelve noon with military honors to be conducted at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville.

In lieu of floral arrangements and customary remembrances, memorial donations in his memory may be sent to Haven Heights Baptist Church, 7701 US-271, Fort Smith, Arkansas 72908 for the Children and Youth Camp Fund. These donations will provide scholarships for children and youth to attend camp.
