James Randle Fowler

James Randle "Jim" Fowler 71, loving father and husband, passed away at his home on June 11, 2016. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Winfred Fowler, his mother, Elsie Truman Fowler, his brother, Kevin Britt Fowler, and his son, Charles Thomas Fowler. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Anna Fowler, his daughter Jennifer (Lisa Ann) Colton-Fowler, daughter-in-law Pamela Fowler, granddaughters Elizabeth Fowler, Caitlin (Emilio) Fowler, and Meagann Nimchan, his brother Charles Frederick (Annadell) Fowler, and 6 nieces and nephews.
Jim was born in Quitman, AR, and grew up in Conway, AR, where he earned his B.S. from the University of Central Arkansas. While in college, he met and married Mary Anna Martin. Jim pursued his Master's degree at Ole Miss before becoming an Industrial Engineer for Timex. Jim continued to work in manufacturing, transitioning from engineer to management. His time with Timex afforded an opportunity to live in Toluca, Mexico. Upon returning to the States, Jim used his new bilingual skills to enter the maquiladora industry managing plants in Nuevo Laredo and Matamoros, where he would spend the majority of his career until retirement. In his 30 plus years of plant management, Jim oversaw the manufacturing of everything from car parts, house shoes, school buses, watches, and more. By the time he retired in 2001, Jim had used that experience to start his own successful cottage sewing business supplying the automotive industry. When not at work, Jim enjoyed music, a family tradition, singing, playing the organ, guitar, and piano, reading, computer programming and games, and spending time with his family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Darling Mouser Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the Fowler family asks that donations in Jim's name be made to the Brownsville Society for the Performing Arts, 6700 Ruben M. Torres Blvd., Brownsville, Texas 78526.
