Javier Amador Sonny Vela, 61, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas surrounded by his loving family after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer.
Javier attended local public schools, including a local business college. He served the Port of Brownsville while working for CV Export Warehouse, his familys business. At present, he was vicepresident of the business when it was incorporated after his fathers death in October 2011. Javier also ventured into the shrimping industry, owning the fishing vessel, MISS ANDREA, which is captained by his son Javier II.
Javier also enjoyed working and spending time at the family ranch in Jim Hogg County. While he will be remembered for all of his hard work the amazing love he had for his children, grandchildren, and family, will never be forgotten.
Javier The Big S had many friends and loved all kinds of challenges. He took on the drought at his fathers ranch in Jim Hogg County and saved the cattle despite the drought, and loved the experience. Javier at one time obtained his pilots license and locally flew a small plane. He loved fast cars, Harley Davidson motorcycles, camping, vintage cars, listening to Jazz music, but he genuinely loved helping anyone in need. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Javier was welcomed and embraced at Heavens gate by his father, Amador Vela.
His legacy lives on through his children: Andrea, Javier II, and Amanda Vela his grandchildren: Alexandra and Jay Vela his mother, Elvira Viri Dalrymple Vela his siblings: Sandra Mike Tetreau and Dan J. Vela his nieces: Shannon Reynaldo III Garza and Jessica Arturo Kalifa greatnieces and nephews: Andrew and Abigail Kalifa and Julianne and Reynaldo Garza IV his love, Sherri McFall numerous other family, and many, many friends and acquaintances, many involved in the shrimping industry along the Texas and Mexican coastal area.
Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. and continue through 9:00 p.m. today, Sunday, July 27, 2014, with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. this evening in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser. A Liturgical Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2014, at St. Lukes Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Drive. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Javier Amador Vela II, Jay Vela, Jorge Gonzalez Jr., Humberto Vela Jr., Julian Vela III, and Mauricio Chvez Jr. are honored to be serving as Javiers pallbearers.
Dan Vela, Mike Tetreau, Arturo Kalifa, Reynaldo G. Garza III, Rene Rodriguez, Ricardo Rodriguez, Mauricio Chavez, J.R. Conners, Albert Cole, Art Alarcon, George Ferraez, and the crew members of the MISS ANDREA will serve as honorary pallbearers.
