BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Joseph "Jerry" Jamar entered into eternal rest on Sunday, the 1st of September 2024 in the comfort of his Brownsville residence. He was 71 years of age.

Jerry was born on June 28, 1953 in Little Rock, Arkansas, son of the late Joseph Frederick Jamar, Sr. and Betty Stevenson Jamar. He received his bachelor's degree in English from The University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida and completed his master's degree in English Composition at The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

He made the Rio Grande Valley his home forty-two years ago, first residing in Harlingen before moving to Brownsville. Jerry was an English professor and retired from The University of Texas at Brownsville - Texas Southmost College after twenty-seven years of dedicated instruction. Always wanting the best for his students, Jerry mentored and supported each and every one of them through his courses to ensure they would excel and would often spend countless hours offering tutoring sessions. He was patient, supportive, and always made himself available to those in need.

His favorite pastimes included artistry and golfing. As an artist, Jerry would create paintings, sketches, sculptures, and digital art. As an avid golfer, one could find Jerry out on the golf course almost every day of the week.

Preceding Jerry in death were his parents, Joseph Frederick Jamar, Sr. and Betty Stevenson Jamar.

Survivors include his children Joseph Matthew Jamar and Frederick Luke Jamar, and Scott McRaven (Alex); his siblings Judy Weber, Greg Jamar (Sandy), Scott Jamar, Jacky Jamar, and Ricky Jamar; close friend, Sandra Jamar; and his beloved cats, Sneaks, Snowball, and Tigs.
