Joan Todd Walker

Joan Todd Walker, 82, of Brownsville, our beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and friend entered into the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Spanish Meadows Nursing Home in Brownsville after a brief illness.

Joan, a native of Maracaibo, Venezuela, had been a resident of Brownsville since 1931. She worked for the BISD as a Library Clerk at the Media Center for 17 years before retiring.

After retiring, she and her husband Richard started a small Mom and Pop greenhouse nursery business. This went hand in hand with Joans love of plants and gardening. She loved to work in her garden and her efforts were rewarded several times when they were awarded Yard of the Month. In addition to her love of plants and gardening, Joan, a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan, watched every one of their games, always cheering them on to victory.

Up until December of this past year, Joan resided at Winter Haven Resort, where she enjoyed life to its fullest while making many new wonderful friends. She enjoyed participating in all the activities offered at the resort. Joan was also a lifelong member of Central Christian Church where she served her church in numerous capacities.

Joan was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her and been a part of her life.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Walker two daughters, Catherine Cathy Kirchner and Sherry Lee Ellis her parents, Eugene and Eulalie Todd and her brother, Eugene Todd.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of her are her daughter, Christine and her husband Don Eddie Moore her son, Richard Allan and his wife Josefina the grandchildren that were the joy of her life: Mary Katherine Robert Nieto, Donald Moore, John Mary Allen, Richard Lee Ellis, Jessy and Traci Kirchner, and Nicole Walker greatgrandchildren and a host of friends.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. Pastor Lance Hostetter will officiate the Funeral Service which will begin at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will follow the chapel service.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Richard Allan Walker, Don Eddie Moore, Donald Moore, John Allen, Richard Lee Ellis, and Robert Nieto.

In lieu of flowers, it was Joans wish that memorial gifts in her name be made to Central Christian Church Building Fund, 1100 E. Alton Gloor Blvd., Brownsville, Texas 78526 or the charity of donors choice.

Joans family would like to extend their appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to: Dr. Juan M. Martinez, Dr. Betancourt, and the staffs at VBMCBrownsville, Solara HospitalBrownsville, and Spanish Meadows Nursing Home for your compassion and care as you ministered to Joan.
