Joaquim G. "Jack" Carinhas,Jr.

Joaquim "Jack" G. Carinhas Jr., 82, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas with his loving family at his side.

Jack, as he was affectionately known to all, was born in St. Augustine, Fl., in April of 1934. He graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans, La., where he obtained both his Bachelors and Doctors of Jurisprudence degrees, the latter in a record 2 years. Jack started his law practice in New Orleans, and in 1966 moved to the Valley where he would proudly continue to practice for 59 years. Jack worked up until his very last days, settling some last minute cases from his hospital bed.

An ad announcing the closing of Jack's practice ran in the Brownsville Herald on June 14, 2016. He was also privileged to represent injured maritime workers at the Port of Brownsville, as well as the shrimping community. Jack was a very generous and giving person who helped countless of people in need; even to the point of offering his legal services pro bono.

Jack was a loving and supportive father. He always supported his children and family in all of their endeavors. Jack was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those who were fortunate to have known him.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Ilda and Joaquim G. Carinhas, Sr. and a step-son, Ronaldo De León.

Jack is survived by his wife, Rosario "Rosie" Carinhas; his children: Judith (Jim) Bergstrom, Matthew Carinhas, Philip A. (Ika) Carinhas, and Rachael M. (Ed) Murphy; two step-sons: Ramón (Delia) and René De León; four grandchildren: Isabella Murphy, David O. Carinhas, and Rhett and Scarlett Carinhas; his brother, Joseph G. (Mary Jeanne) Carinhas and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2016, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Phillip Carinhas, Matt Carinhas, Ed Murphy, David Carinhas, René De León, and Ramón De León are honored to be serving as Jack's pallbearers.
