Joe Gilbert Galvan, 68, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle entered into the glory of his eternal life on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville.

Mr. Galvan, who was born in Spur, Texas on April 23, 1940, had been a resident of Brownsville since 1977. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964, having served in Vietnam during his last year of service. He was equally proud to be a member of the American Vietnam Veterans Chapter One. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 1032 of Brownsville.

Mr. Galvan was a faithful and dedicated employee of TECCOR de Mexico, where he worked as an Industrial Engineer for 26 years before retiring in 1999. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, and spending time with his family and freinds. He was the consummate football fan and could spend hours watching all levels of football, but his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys.

We are saddened at his passing, but we are comforted in knowing that our Dad made a lasting impression on the people he met and shared life with. We know that he enjoyed his 68 years of life to their fullest.

Mr. Galvan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria C. Galvan; his parents, Pauline and Tony Galvan; and by his sister, Mary Torres.

Left behind to eternally treasure his memory are his children: Connie Galvan, Nicholas Galvan, Melissa Ann Galvan and Sandra Lynn Galvan; 12 grandchildren and his three siblings, Daniel Galvan, David Galvan and Teresa Martin.

A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the Brownsville Veterans Park at the corner of Central Blvd. and Wildrose Lane in Brownsville with military honors conducted by members of the American Vietnam Veterans Chapter One.

Mr. Galvans family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Balesh Sharma and all the staff at South Texas Cancer Center for the wonderful care they provided him.
