Joe F. Irwin

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Joe F. Irwin of Brownsville, Texas passed away on Sunday, the 24th of April 24, 2022 at the age of seventy-six years.

Joe was an accomplished and dedicated educator for many years teaching choral music to countless students in Brownsville and Victoria. Active in the Texas Music Educators Association, he served as State Vocal Chairman from 1985-1987. He also served for many years as Choir Director at Church of the Advent, Episcopal. Joe touched many lives and will be missed.

Joe is survived by Lindsay Rentfro Irwin and their two sons, David (Andrea) and Bill (Cynthia), as well as Joe’s pride and joy, his four grandchildren, Alexander, Kyle, Billy, and Charlotte, all of Brownsville. Joe is also survived by his sister Jeanne Cowart (Jimmy) of Henderson, Texas; four nephews, Mark Rentfro, Matt Cowart, Craig Cowart, and Mark Irwin; and one niece, Elizabeth Rentfro. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Hazel Irwin, and by his brother, Stanley Irwin.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Advent, Episcopal at 104 W. Elizabeth Street in Brownsville, Texas on Saturday, the 30th of April 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Joe’s family will be available for greeting at 10:00 a.m. A private interment will take place after the service.

In lieu of floral arrangements and customary remembrances, memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Advent or the Episcopal Day School, 34 N. Coria Street, Brownsville, Texas 78520.
