John Austin Dunkel

John Austin Dunkel, formerly of Upper Arlington, Ohio, died on February 6th, 2011, at his home in Rancho Viejo, Texas. He was born August 18th, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio to Evelyn Ennis and Richard Dunkel.

He is survived by his beloved wife Sue two daughters, Evelyn Rick Heilbrunn and Jane Mark Warren his grandchildren, Nicholas John Warren, Max Carl Heilbrunn, Adam Richard Heilbrunn, and Leah Judith Heilbrunn.

John graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1948 and from The Ohio State University in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science and again in 1956 with his Juris Doctorate. He also obtained a Masters of Law in Taxations from New York University in 1960. John began his career as an attorney with the firm Porter, Wright, Morris and Arthur in Columbus, Ohio on June 1st 1960, and was elevated to a partner in 1962. He specialized in Federal Income Tax, General Business Law, and ERISA Tax Law. John remained with the Porter Wright for 35 years, retiring in 1996. On October 11th 1952, he married Judith Kay Allison of Upper Arlington. They later divorced. He married the former Bonnie Clark in November of 1974. They made their home in Columbus until Mr. Dunkels retirement when they moved to Rancho Viejo permanently. She preceded him in death in July of 2007.

On August 1st, 2009, John married the former Susan Sharp in a ceremony at their home in Rancho Viejo surrounded by family and friends. Sue, a former nurse, was Johns primary caretaker throughout his illness and was by his side when he passed. Her strength and courage gave him great comfort and he felt so blessed for the short time they were together.
