John W. Schwarm, 66, of Rancho Viejo, died Wednesday September 13, 2017 at Valley Baptist Hospital after a battle with heart disease.

John was born in Ohio and raised in Hanover, Indiana. He graduated from General Motors Institute of Technology (now Kettering University) in Flint, Michigan and from Purdue University with an MBA. He then launched a more than 40 year career with various General Motors divisions/spin-offs, including international assignments in Spain, Singapore, and Germany.

While living in South Texas on assignment in Mexico, John met and married the love of his life, Susana Elizondo. They traveled the world, always returning home to Texas and their beloved cats and dogs. Susana passed away in 2009 and her extended family became his. He continued to travel, often with his sister, and always proudly sharing the antics of his pets.

John was an excellent husband, son, brother, and friend. His quiet intelligence, steadfast friendship, and careful analysis before making decisions brought him respect from friends, family, and colleagues. Stories of his impact on our lives will be long remembered.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Schwarm, in March 2017, and his wife, Susana Elizondo, in March 2009.

He is survived by his father, Everett Schwarm, of Hanover, Indiana; his sister, Nancy Livesay, of Las Vegas, Nevada; his sister-in-law, Bea Elizondo; his longtime family friend, Norma Espino; his nephew, Nicholas James Elizondo, and great-nephews, Grayson James and Noah Patrick Elizondo, all of Brownsville, Texas; his brother-in-law, Federico Elizondo of California; and numerous members of the Elizondo family.

John will be cremated and interred with his wife in Brownsville. A celebration of life gathering will be held November 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Resaca Room at Rancho Viejo Resort & Country Club; casual dress and lots of happy storytelling were his wishes for this event.
