Jorge Luis Zárate

ARANSAS PASS, TX. – Jorge Luis Zárate entered eternal rest on Wednesday, the 28th of September 2022 in Portland, Texas. He was sixty-eight years old.

Jorge was born and raised in San Pedro, Texas and lived most of his life in Brownsville. He lived briefly in Tulare, California, Houston, and most recently in Aransas Pass. At first sight, Jorge was a simple man… an electrician by trade, a love of Conjunto music, and great at manning the grill. Those of us who knew and love him know that there was so much more to him. He was a storyteller by nature and was often called upon by his brothers and sisters when memory failed about a person or an event. He shared his knowledge – familial, academic, “historical” – in an enthralling manner, but you had to stay sharp, or his humor could slip by you. Many more will remember his willingness to help, his firm handshake, and his amazing smile.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jorge Luis Zárate, Jr.; his parents, María Becerra Zárate and Manuel Zárate; his brothers Alejandro Zárate, Gilberto Zárate, and Ernesto Zárate; and by his sister, Juana Garza.

Jorge is survived by Ludivina G. Zárate; his son, Manuel Arnulfo Zárate; three daughters Maria Guadalupe Ochoa (Marco), Izelda Ann Zárate, and Delaila Rose Zárate (Rolando); and six grandsons and one granddaughter. His passing will be further felt by his brothers, Reynaldo B. Zárate, Manuel Zárate, Jr., and Arturo B. Zárate; his three sisters Bertha Farias, Maria Elena Garza, and Ana María Ruiz; and by Leticia Paz Ramos.

Zárate. Chore. Suegro. Grandpa. Dad. Jorge Luis Zárate will be profoundly missed by family and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, the 1st of October 2022 between the hours of twelve noon and nine o’clock at night, with a prayer service to begin at six o'clock Saturday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
