Jos Angel Gavito, 94, beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle entered into the glory of his eternal life on Monday, January 05, 2009 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville.
Jos Angel was a member of one of Brownsvilles pioneer families and a lifetime resident of Brownsville, having been born here on March 18, 1914, the fifth of 10 children of Manuel and Isabel O. Gavito.
Mr. Gavito was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Isabel O. Gavito; his sisters, Maria Isabel G. Magueregui, Antonia G. Castillo, Maria del Carmen G. Landin, and Felipa G. Cardenas; and by his brothers, Manuel, Ernesto, Roberto and Eduardo Gavito.
Left to mourn his loss is his wife of 63 years, Amparo Gomez Gavito; his three sons: Jose Angel Eliza Gavito Jr., Alfredo Antonio Gavito, and Ricardo F. Yara Gavito; his daughter, Margarita Victor Canales; his grandchildren: Victoria G. David Martin, Maricela Gavito, Marisa Gavito, Victor Canales, Alexandra Canales, Micaela Canales, and Julian Gavito; his great-granddaughter, Elle Martin, and his brother, Alfredo Gavito. He will also be deeply missed by his numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at St. Marys Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. His sons, Jose Angel Jr., Alfredo Antonio, and Ricardo F. Gavito together with his nephews Manuel Gavito III, George Gavito, and Cipriano Cardenas are honored to be serving as pallbearers for Mr. Gavito. Honorary pallbearer will be his brother, Alfredo Gavito.
