Mr. Joe A. Hinojosa, Sr., was born on January 1919, in Brownsville, Texas. He went to meet his heavenly father on July 6, 2012 at the age of 93. He was from one of the original pioneer families of the area. He was the greatgrandson of Miguel HINOJOSA the original Grantee of the El Palmito grant, along with Miguels wife, greatgrand mother, Estefana SALINAS Lopez of the San Pedro de las Motas grant covering over 44,000 acres in presentday Kenedy County, Texas.
Joes parents, Ernesto Longoria Hinojosa and Benigna Alvarez Hinojosa preceded him in death. Joe was the loving and devoted husband of Bertha Morales Hinojosa, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage and who preceded him in death in 1998. Surviving him is his only child, Mr. Joe A. Hinojosa, Jr.
Our Nation lost another member of The Greatest Generation, who grew up in Brownsville, Texas during the Great Depression, and then went on to fight in World War II in the Army Air Corps. During World War II, Mr. Hinojosa served in both the United States as well as India. During the War, he was stationed at Reno Field, Nevada then his unit was moved to Karachi India now Pakistan for the remainder of the War in support of Flying the Hump, the Burma Hump, in order to keep pressure on Japanese occupational troops. While assigned in India, Mr. Hinojosa use to tell the story of his Guard Monkey that use to protect his tentmaking sure no strangers entered the tent while they slept.
In 1945, when the war was coming to a close, thousands of US GIs were ordered to San Francisco to start processing for Dischargehe, along with other GIs, felt that they literally boarded the slowest boat heading to San Francisco. They could not wait to get back to their families. He was a life member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
When he returned from the War, he started working for Manskis Motors and then moved on to TipoTex Chevrolet where worked for almost 20 years. After leaving TipoTex Chevrolet, he began his career in Security Service with Marathon LeTourneau, attaining the Rank of Captain, where he retired in 1993.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday July 13, 2012, and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday July 14, 2012, at St. Lukes Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Dr., Brownsville, Texas 78521. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Military Honors will be conducted by members of Brownsville V.F.W. Post 2035.
